Welcome to the Land of Divinity and Spirituality
A soulful symphony of the rushing Ganges, prayer chants, and frenzied river Ghats, Haridwar brings alive the spirituality & tranquility amidst the chaos. The land of many myths & legends; Haridwar marks the spot where the holy Ganges enters the plains, a venue for the sacred Kumbh Mela, and the gateway to the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand. Haridwar’s beautiful temples, buzzing bazaars, and the serenity of the Ganges are sure to mesmerize you.
Walk with us in the narrow lanes, visit the bustling Ghats and take in the dip in the chilly waters of the Ganges in this spectacular gateway to the gods.
The fast-flowing Ganges, a haze of rituals, and a sea of humanity welcome you at this famous bathing ghat (river steps). It is believed that a dip in the waters at Har ki Pauri washes away all your sins, and paves the way to salvation. In the evening, Har ki Pauri is lit with scores of lamps and echoes with holy chants during the Ganga Aarti (river worship).
Mansa Devi, the wish fulfilling goddess, resides at a hilltop temple accessible both by a steep treks and a cable car ride. If you take the cable car to Mansa Devi, you may combine it with another ride to Chandi Devi Temple, located on the summit at Neel Hill.
The narrow alleyways of the city and the area near Har Ki Pauri are home to a collage of colorful shops and stalls selling a range of trinkets and knick-knacks. Empty canisters in all shapes & sizes to carry the holy water home, Rudraksha garlands, idols of deities, Ayurveda products and a whole lot of bric-a-brac is available for sale.
All restaurants in Haridwar offer only vegetarian fare, but the taste is amazing. Sample the Puri-Sabzi at the famous Chotiwala hotel, dig in mouthwatering kachoris near Har ki Pauri and then try some hot & frothy milk with piping hot jalebis to experience food-salvation in Haridwar.
Pilgrims visit the city throughout the year but the peak season is from February to April and then from July to November.
By Air- Dehradun Airport, around 40kms away, connects the city to other major Indian cities.
By Rail- Haridwar is an important railway junction and is well-connected with most of the Indian cities.
By Road- A well-maintained network of roads & highways connect Haridwar to the major cities in the country.
