Double Decker Root Bridge
The living root bridges are created by guiding the flexible roots of rubber trees across the river and then allowing them time to grow & strengthen. However, this double-decker root bridge across Umshiang River at Nongriat Village is the 'Holy Grail' of root bridges. Built patiently by generations of villagers, these two bridges stacked one over the other are a specimen of the ingenuity of the Khasi people.
