Double Decker Root Bridge

The living root bridges are created by guiding the flexible roots of rubber trees across the river and then allowing them time to grow & strengthen. However, this double-decker root bridge across Umshiang River at Nongriat Village is the 'Holy Grail' of root bridges. Built patiently by generations of villagers, these two bridges stacked one over the other are a specimen of the ingenuity of the Khasi people.

Mawsmai Caves

A stone’s throw from Cheerapunji, these limestone caves in the Jaintia Hills are almost 150m long and promise you a thrilling experience as you walk in there to discover the secrets of the deep. Lit by dim lights, these caves showcase the vastness & beauty of nature.

Nohkalikai Falls

A quick drive from Cherrapunji takes you to these gorgeous falls cascading down from over 1100ft. One of the tallest in the country and a delight for the senses Nohkalikai Falls depict nature at its best. 

The Seven Sisters Falls / Nohsngithiang Falls

This seven segmented waterfall plunges from over 1000ft near Mawsami Village. A gorgeous spectacle during the monsoons, the falls form a breathtaking rainbow as the sun shines on its prism-like droplets.

Best Time to Visit

The peak tourist season for visiting Cherrapunji is from October to April. However, if you love rains then visit this realm of the clouds during monsoons from June to August when the town is greener than green, the waterfalls are gushing, and the nature is at its best in Cherrapunji.

By Air- Umroi Airport, Shillong, around 80kms from Cherrapunji, is the closest airport. 

By Rail- Guwahati, at around 180kms from Cherrapunji, is the closest railhead. 

By Road- Cherrapunji is well-connected to all major cities in the region with a good network of roads & highways.
